About Katie's Pen

Katie Cruice Smith, Founder and Principal of Katie's Pen, graduated from Bob Jones University with a B.S. degree in Publishing and English in 2001.

A week after graduating from college, Katie obtained a position as education reporter at a local newspaper.  She covered stories on topics ranging from education to politics to the state beauty pageant.  She also learned to take her own pictures and designed ads for weekly publication.  Katie also helped with office responsibilities, including answering phones, helping customers in the front store, and typesetting.

Katie worked in several different office environments, including a local college, a church office, and a customer service facility.  She then earned a position as executive assistant for the host of an international television show.  As the executive assistant, her responsibilities included correspondence, receiving orders, answering calls, ad design, guest relations, scheduling, and general office responsibilities.

Katie has been a writer/editor since 2001.  Some of her projects have included editing a history book, typesetting an employees’ handbook, writing the script for a self-help CD, and creating a grammar and writing exam.  She is an award-winning poet and essayist and is an aspiring children’s book writer.

Born in Williamsport, PA, Katie now resides in a small town in South Carolina with her husband, Jamie, and their dog, Sasha Mae.
